Edible oil duties slashed to curb costs

Chennai: With costs within the retail market ruling excessive, the federal government has lowered the fundamental customs responsibility and agricultural cess on sure edible oils until March 31, 2022 to melt costs.

The fundamental customs responsibility on crude palm oil, crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil has been lowered from 2.5 per cent to nil. The agriculture cess levied on the fundamental customs responsibility has been reduce from 20 per cent to 7.5 per cent for crude palm oil and to five per cent for crude soyabean oil and crude sunflower oil.

 

The fundamental customs responsibility on edible grade soyabean oil, edible grade sunflower oil, refined bleached deodorised (RBD) palm oil, RBD palm olein, RBD palm stearin and any palm oil apart from crude palm oil has been lowered from 32.5 per cent to 17.5 per cent, the Central Bureau of Oblique Taxes and Customs mentioned.

The federal government had earlier lowered the edible oil duties in June after which in August and September. Nonetheless, retail costs nonetheless remained excessive.

In the meantime, the festive demand noticed edible oil imports rising to report excessive ranges. Imports of edible oils rose 63 per cent to 16.98 lakh tonnes throughout September, setting a brand new report for a single month.
