Call of Duty 3
On Friday Activision Blizzard announced its much awaited Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 had broken previous records. This is the highest day-one sales the company ever saw.

Activision made it clear in its statement that the new Call of Duty brought in estimated record sales of $400 million with more than 6.5 million units sold in North America and the UK just in its opening 24 hours.

According to reports, statistics of the sales were collected using data taken from Chart-track and “retail customer sell-through information.” This marks a $40 million increase in the day one sales of its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops.                                                                                                                                 <credit>

“We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories,” said Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzard CEO. .

“Other than Call of Duty, there has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records three years in a row.  Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise exceed worldwide theatrical box office for “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings,” two of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time.”

Battlefield 3

Although, EA hasn’t made open firm day one sales statistics, the numbers Activision posted show that the new “Call of Duty” has taken off Battlefield 3 in the two’s opening sales competition.

Notwithstanding the fact that “Battlefield 3″ broke it’s own record sales, most recent figures show that battlefield is already losing to “Call of Duty”.  Electronic Art announced on 31 October that “based on internal estimates”, Battlefield 3 had sold in-excess of five million units globally during its opening week.
